Years ago there were several hypnotists going around the country and putting on shows, usually in night clubs. It was hysterical...a lot of fun. I was once part of the show. A friend of mine went to a hypnotist privately to lose weight... (they lost a little). For the most part, I think that dealing with hypnosis is a positive experience and at the very least neutral. Nobody can control anyone thru suggestions beyond what they themselves would allow. IMO their's nothing 'evil' or 'negative' about it.

Should we care about "lurkers"?
by expatbrit inive noticed some discussion on the question of whether we should be concerned about moderating our behaviour because of what lurking jws will think.
should we be concerned about scaring off jws who may be starting to question the wt, or should anything go because if they can't deal with the real world it's not our problem and we should be ourselves?.
the following are some of my thoughts.

IMHO - Sometimes those other boards get out of hand. Taking the 'high road' with a touch 'class' is always a positive.

ghosts
by freedom96 innot to get too deep of a "scary" subject, but wanted to hear opinions out there.. when taught at the kh, we were always told there is no such things as ghosts, but if there were one it was a demon.
i want to use that as an example to how dogmatic they are about so many things, that if they say it to be one way, then that is the truth period.. as it turns out, growing up, we had a ghost in our house.
don't laugh, it is true.

Which scenario makes sense to you?
by Sirona inscenario one: "in the mechanistic view of nature, everything is an artifact made by a boss who has many different names.
in the western view, the boss is called god.
this god is often depicted as a white-bearded male who roams around the sky creating the natural world.

You're only suggesting two scenerios, one as being absolute? Why not a scenerio 3 or 4 or 5 or 25, etc. etc. etc. I don't think 'man' can ever accurately , in this life, define 'God'.. Put me down as not an atheist because of undeniable experiences that tell me otherwise.

Is the death penalty effective in usa?
by haujobbz in.
im asking this because lately in the uk 2 girls were murdered that were only 12 yrs old and now 59% population of the uk want the death penalty reinstated.. i assume you already have the death penalty in the usa, but do you think it is effective reducing 1st degree murder and potential child molesters, would you like to see the death penalty removed in the united states or not.. i wonder if the death penalty will be reinstated in the uk what do you think, personally i dont think it will maybe the politicians are afraid they wont get as many votes.

Statistics indicate that the number of offenders who repeat their crimes after being put to death is quite small.
So I hear....quite accurate, don't ya think?

my story
by little witch inhi everybody.. this is my first post.
i have been reading the forums for some time, but have not posted til now, as it brings painful memories.. my experience with the jw's began in 1967, when my mother was killed in a car crash, and my father married a jw six months later.
we were a ''blended family''.

Welcome to the board L.W. Thanks for your story....it's interesting how every story is different, yet there are similarities. I hope you stay a while and give us your input on whatever strikes your fancy (no, I'm not 80 years old, I just like old time phrases).

One last thought about statistics.... they can be very flawed with regards to portraying the 'truth' about a sitiuation.
Case in point is the statistic about murder in this country....high yes. Murdered by guns from someone you know...very high.
The skewing comes in when they don't reveal that a large part of those murders are drug related, gangs killing gang members ... people they 'know' ... do I care? Only that I wish we didn't have the problem that destroys peoples' families and lives... do I care about gang members killing other gang members who are ruining the society....not really.
